Tiles in Portugal

Tile related stuff from our vacation. Tiles are everywhere in Portugal and the largest tile museum in the world is in Lisbon. We used airline miles to get there and then the hotels were actually cheaper than anywhere in the USA. We did make a side trip to Barcelona and looked at some Guadi buildings that also used a lot of tile work.

1) Church in Evora, Portugal
2) Light well in a Gaudi designed apartment building
3) Moorish Castle walls in Sintra, Portugal
4) Geographic center of Portugal at the University in Evora
5) Roman mosaic at Conimbriga, Portugal
6) Sao Bento train station at Porto, Portugal
7) Tiled map of Lisbon
8) Tile process display at Tile Museum in Lisbon

About Ed Mighell

Former civil engineer turned artist. Received BFA in printmaking. I developed a nice tile clay body using the glacial clay from the inlet next to Anchorage. I sell mainly at the Alaska Native Heritage Center during the Summer. I also go outside, what Alaskans call the rest of the U.S., to large arts and crafts fares.
