6″ Three Hares

Six-Inch Hares

Description

The three Hares is sort of an optical illusion. There are three Hares and each hare has two ears, but there are only three ears. A fellow printmaker ask other artists to produce art work for a show based on his translation of a story of Saint Francis and the Hare that led animals to their respective heavens. I found the three-Hares image used in medieval monasteries online and came up with a large wood cut version, like three-foot by four-foot, that a steamroller made a print from. The monasteries had borrowed the design from the Etruscans, but what it meant to the Etruscans is unknown. The design is Alaskanized by the added X-ray style.

On the backside of the tile image above, the date constantly changes. Pretty much everything I make sells in the same year that I make it. The main ingredient in my tile clay is the Bootlegger Cove Clay, and it is the clay formation underlying all of Anchorage at varying thicknesses and depths.

The “Silver Hand Artist” stamp on the backside means I’m registered with the state of Alaska as a native Alaskan artist.

All tiles are made to order, it is listed as “in-stock” so you can order and pay. Being a one-person business, it will take 2-3 weeks to make the item if it is not currently available. I can email an image of the tile once it is made for your approval before shipping.
